When designing Brendan seeks to strike the perfect balance between form and function as well as materials and manufacturing methods. It was during his childhood years in Cote d’Ivoire and summers in coastal Maine, that he fell in love with the functional beauty of working tools and wooden boats. He received a Sculpture degree from Oberlin College in 2001 and graduated from the masters program in Industrial Design at RISD in 2009. When not designing objects and buildings, he can usually be found building or playing in boats.
Complex simplicity, technology, natural and organic forms are constant in the work of Aurelie Tu, founder of Crafted Systems.
Aurelie’s work strikes the balance between design and life, the point of convergence between one’s
true experience of product and the innate desire for story, meaning, aspiration and innovation.
Crafted Systems celebrates modern craft: reinvigorating handcraft in the context of today’s society. Rather than using highly skilled artisans, Crafted Systems partners with the YWCA women’s shelter to create their products. The “healing work” helps in skills development for women in transition, economically enabling and empowering them, giving them collective purpose and creative outlet.
Award-winning design is combined with innovative weaving techniques + the simple idea of collective effort to create modern pieces for today’s lifestyle and environment. The first collection includes a selection of 100% wool felt vessels, table pieces, lights, floor and wall systems.

Dwell is published 10 times a year (monthly except bi-monthly in December/January and July/August) by Dwell, LLC. According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, by the close of 2005 the magazine’s circulation exceeded 260,000, a 25.5 percent increase over 2004. In April 2005 Dwell received the National Magazine Award for General Excellence in the 100,000 -to-250,000 circulation category. In March 2006, then creative director Claudia Bruno and photo editor Kate Stone received the Adweek 2006 Creative Team of the Year award. Recently, president and publisher Michela O’Connor Abrams has attempted to capitalize on the magazine’s success by introducing a number of branded spin-offs, including a limited edition minimalist athletic sneaker designed by Medium Design Group and a weekly TV Series on the Fine Living cable network. Dwell, LLC also publishes a popular design website dwell.com and produces an annual design conference and exhibition called Dwell on Design. In addition, Dwell manufactures homes in partnership with Empyrean.
After years as a working artist and ornithologist the idea of designing furniture came about recently. Eric started generating a list of descriptive words to use as his guiding principles: dynamic energy, organic elements, and clean intentional lines. In time he added the words rich, steeped and time-marinated surfaces. The resulting synthesis has an aesthetic that encapsulates his vision.

GO Build Studio was created in 1998 by Greg Bergere. Greg grew up in a large, industrious family in Connecticut and Pennsylvania. He naturally inherited an appreciation for history, common sense, and resourcefulness. He holds degrees in fine arts (Hartford Art School) and architecture (Carnegie Mellon University) and now designs both furniture and buildings. GO Build Studio is Greg Bergere’s furniture design studio. During his years in architectural practice, he began making furniture as a way to explore design ideas relatively quickly, and because he couldn’t find or afford the furniture he needed for myself. Over time, he began making furniture for friends and friends of friends, until finally the part-time work grew to become GO Build Studio the business. A direct common sense design approach characterized by simplicity, balance and a high degree of functionality is central to the work. Greg is interested in creating pieces that are contemporary and explore older ideas in a modern context. Some general things that inform his work (in no particular order): style over fashion, classic forms, geometry, substance and longevity, craft and lineage, contrast and balance, gravity and levity, generosity and spaciousness, transparency and opacity, openness.
Contemporary furniture and lighting company Scale1:1 produces works that are anything but ordinary. Founded by company President Clara Reis, Scale1:1 is committed to the production and marketing of compelling and creative furniture and lighting products. Their unique designs are playful, innovative and have been utilized to create dynamic and remarkable furniture. But Reis’ contribution is only half of the equation. The second half, creative Director David Winston heads product design and also embodies Reis’ innovative approach to design. No stranger to the design field, Winston previously founded Cleanroom Inc., a bi-coastal design firm that specializes in architectural design, branded environments, and custom furniture. Some of his more notable works include the attention catching Museum of Sex on Fifth Avenue in New York, the aptly named TETRIS Building off 9th avenue (named the TETRIS Building for wrapping around an existing 1901 tenement building on 9th Ave and 53rd St.) and the winning bid for the $50 million penthouse apartment and roof top pavilion at the Trump World Tower which is the tallest residential building in the United States. For Scale 1:1, David has put together a team of architects, designers and leaders in branded architectural environments to pioneer a new way of combining utility with art and design. Under the supervision of Clara and David, Scale 1:1 has achieved great success and accolades with the Supernova “huggable” light, really-you can give it a squeeze, and the Floppy table, which oddly you can just give it a flop.
“Scale1:1 is an amazing brand with fantastic products.” says Clara. “Our innovative approach is very refreshing and I’m extremely excited by the direction we are heading.”

The Future Perfect was born from the desire to showcase the newest and best in decorative arts and design. At once it is a store, shop, gallery and mecca, mixing talent from New York and the world. Founder Dave Alhadeff recognized that too much design seen in magazines or boutique windows relied on cleverness but, in the end, had no lasting or intrinsic beauty. In Brooklyn, things were different. Its designers were on to something fundamental and exquisite. In September of 2003, the store opened, celebrating local products and furniture with a party. Alhadeff’s Dad flirted with Williamsburg girls and made hot dogs while his Mom worked the register and made the sales. Soon after, The Future Perfect was alive and stocking up on designs and names from all over.
In 2008, The Future Perfect opened a store-in-store at Ten Over Six in Los Angeles. These people are indeed excellent and can be visited here:www.tenover6.com.
In 2009, The Future Perfect expanded over the river to two locations in downtown Manhattan. One is a tabletop focused shop at The Chelsea Market and the other is our new flagship on Great Jones Street.
Most things at The Future Perfect are charming and unique. To that point, there is an entire collection of products available only through the website. All the stores boast their own own exclusives. So stay in touch and visit back often.

Roy Otwell and Doug Henderson are the design-obsessed proprietors of SWITCH, the premiere modern furniture and accessories showroom in Atlanta, Georgia, and its deep and churning, Web-based companion, switchmodern.com.
IN THE BEGINNING THERE WAS A NEED…
Ten years ago, Roy sought a sleek and modern, as well as functional, kitchen for his own home. The Italian company Poliform met his exacting criteria, but he soon discovered that no one in the South represented the manufacturer. Year-long story short: A cold call to Poliform’s national director of sales and marketing led to Roy and Doug opening Poliform Atlanta to serve the region’s like-minded desire for high-end kitchen products accompanied by equally high-end customer service.
ONE NEED LEADS TO ANOTHER…
Within the first year of operation, Doug and Roy recognized that their Poliform clients’ quest for quality applied to all their home-furnishing acquisitions – furniture and upholstery, light fixtures, floor coverings, and tabletop accessories. It’s simple. Material quality, original design, and customer service are what design-minded people want. This realization motivated the owners to bring additional product lines into their showroom. They were right, and SWITCH was born in May 2002. Needing more display space and wanting a street presence, Roy and Doug moved SWITCH into its current location in April 2004.
