To prepare for F&C’s Fall Event at the Kim Sing; Ford, Ching, featured designers, assistants, interns and one electrician gathered for the set up. With all hands on deck, the results were well worth the effort.

(Everyone helped on the Eiffel!)
The first site attendees saw upon entering the Kim Sing were the hug-able Supernova lights by Scale 1:1. The Supernova lights offered a soft glow in changing colors that guest were able hug, push, punch, etc. Upon entering the house Scale 1:1 had set up utilitarian installations to feature their Finger couches and the Floppy table.

Looming in the middle of the indoor space was a tower made up of the Eiffel stool by RS Barcelona. The DIY recyclable stools are incredibly easy to assemble and retail at under $100. Plus as an added bonus- as someone who has trouble making paper airplanes – I felt an incredible sense of satisfaction and accomplishment upon completion. At the end of the night the tower slowly shrank as stools were handed out to press and VIP guests.

Crafted Systems by Aurelie Tu added color and texture to the Kim Sing with 100% wool felt vessels, table and wall pieces. Each piece’s geometric design is done by hand by Aurelie and the members of the YWCA women’s shelter to teach economical skills and offer a creative outlet for women in transition.

Other pieces featured at the show were Andrew Riska’s bunkbed table, and MRCW’s Gelato Collection of side tables.
Guest mingled and nibbled on dumplings and meatballs till midnight while sipping on signature “Ford” or “Ching” cocktails, mixers generously donated by Izze Sparkling Juice.

(To make at home the “Ching” is vodka with grapefruit and a splash of clementine. The “Ford” is vodka and equal parts blackberry and pomegranate sparkling juice.)
Many more party photos will soon be available here and at the Ford&Ching facebook page here!

We had a great time in spite of the rain! LA’s got a reputation for being full of sugar babies but our friends proved that to be myth. Thanks for everyone that showed up!

If you read this or my posts over at Ludwig you’ll know I’m not-so-quietly impressed by Carre Callaway and her band Queen Kwong. You may remember last year when the band headlined our Dwell on Design after-party and impressed the typically nonplussed design crowd with their powerful mini-set of rock songs.

QK at the Kim Sing Theatre's Dwell/Vice Party

Carre Callaway doing her job.
Well, her new EP was just released on Sugar Baby and can be downloaded here for only $2.75. “Love Is A Bruise” is full with Carre’s exceptional storytelling, musical arrangement, and deft guitar playing (and keyboards and other instruments on the record…she pretty much does it all except for guest appearances by a selection of music industry heavies). I’ve watched QK numerous times and something remarkable happens when Carre plays music. The normally quiet and withdrawn young woman opens up to reveal a unique voice that is beautiful, unique, and unerringly human. Her lyrics are nasty, mean, and vindictive yet somehow sweet and melancholy. I’m doing her a major disservice with the above description, but just know her skill and talent combine into something worthy of your attention. Do yourself a favor and download “Love Is A Bruise” now and visit her website for more information.

Love Is A Bruise
I’ll be at her Spaceland show tonight at 9pm sharp, quietly wishing I could do anything half as well as Carre Callaway plays music.

Join us this Wednesday at the Shortstop on Sunset for another 722 Figueroa event. While F&C is not a sponsor, many of our friends will be in attendance. This event is on the younger side so please be prepared…

Check out this event. These guys make great custom shoes right here in LA and are also behind the GUILD show in Las Vegas, one of the best run shows to check out premium brands. Ask for Jason and tell him I sent you. It’s worth a couple of beers to me so make sure you go…

FORD&CHING and DWELL welcomed over 400 design pros and amateurs to the Kim Sing Theatre last Thursday to announce the new F&C website and new products from Skram, RS-Life, Samuel Moyer Furniture, and Andrew Riiska (FORD&CHING). Everyone seemed to love the food by celebrity chef Neal Fraser of Grace Restaurant, fully staffed bar by Izze (with help from Pearl Vodka) and beer from Nakhon. All photos courtesy of TIGERTIGER.
