Urbancase was founded by darin montgomery based on the philosophy of designing objects and spaces that contribute to a simpler pared back lifestyle focusing on basic aesthetic elements and functionality. while we understand everything we do has an impact on our environment, we make informed decisions about the materials and methods we use.
In addition to our production line of furniture and accessories, we offer a full range of design services including interiors, custom furniture, and product design.
Darin Montgomery is a self taught designer with a background in metalwork and sculpture. After realizing a maker’s approach was the most rewarding method of developing ideas, he dropped out of formal art and design classes to pursue a career in furniture and product design. Darin is the founder and lead designer of urbancase, a founding partner and design wrangler for Standard Socket and an inaugural member of JOIN Design group and associate member of AmDC.
Trey Jones graduated with a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design in the furniture design program. Since SCAD, he has been part of multiple design and art exhibitions including ICFF and Artopia. In 2006, Trey moved to Seattle and started Trey Jones Design.
Rachel Illingworth grew up in Tasmania where she received a BFA from the University of Tasmania. She makes her home in Seattle as an internationally exhibited printmaker.
Brian Beck grew up working with his hands. As a kid he had a tiny work bench next to his father’s and learned from a young age if you want something…you make it yourself. He received a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design but never left the trades and worked as a carpenter. His techniques are based on central European traditions which includes using a very simple set of tools. In the spirit of the German Journeyman, Brian has a true passion for making things.
We’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with talented individuals and great companies on a number design projects. In recent years we’ve worked with Loll Designs, Graypants Inc, Design Commission, Teroforma, and Catherine Grisez Jewelry and Sculpture. While the products vary, the experiences have one thing in common…we love working with awesome people.
